ESTUARIO DEL YTHAN / YTHAN ESTUARY

Ayer hice la primera visita al estuario del río Ythan desde que llegué la semana pasada. La cosa siempre está animada en este lugar y, aunque no haya ningún bicho raro por alli, siempre se puede disfrutar del espectáculo de los eiders y demás aves.

Serreta mediana

Llegué a las 9 de la mañana tras coger el autobús en Aberdeen y me fui directo a disfrutar de los eiders en la boca del estuario. En el camino me sobrevuela algún que otro ansar piquicorto.

Una vez en la orilla, ya puedo disfrutar del los eideres que, en estas fechas, empiezan a cortejarse y es un privilegio poder disfrutar de este sonido tan llamativo.

Algunos de ellos pasaban volando ría arriba...

Y otros también ejercitaban las alas pero dentro del agua..

El ambiente de la ría también estaba animado por las omnipresentes serretas medianas y zarapitos reales.

Yesterday I paid my first visit to Ythan estuary after getting back from my Xmas break. There’s always plenty to see and hear here. Even if no outstanding rarity is present, the eiders and other birds always put on a fine show.

I got there about 9 am after catching a bus from Aberdeen, and I went straight to enjoy the eiders in the river mouth. On the way a few pink-footed geese flew over.

Once at the mouth I was able to enjoy the eiders, which are now in full courting behavior. It’s a real privilege to able to watch them performing.

I also caught a couple of birds flying upriver and others heaving themselves out of the water to stretch their wings.

Red breasted mergansers and curlews, omnipresent, both came close enough for photo opportunities.
